|Name:||Tea Party Host (Wellington)|
|Organisation:||Contact the Elderly|
Contact the Elderly organises monthly Sunday afternoon tea parties for people aged 75 and over who live on their own and sometimes find Sundays a long day without local family and friends to pop in.
We need new hosts in the Somerset area. Hosts are volunteers (of any age) who can hold tea parties in their own homes.
In order to host a tea party, you would need easy access to your property (very few, but ideally no steps) as well as a downstairs toilet. Our hosts tend to host twice a year and will provide tea, cake and sandwiches for the elderly guests and their drivers. Tea parties last 2 hours and the other volunteers in the group would help with serving and clearing up.
Welcoming the small group of older guests and drivers into your home, providing afternoon tea and making a difference - really helps brighten up Sunday afternoon for local older people.
Contact the Elderly is the only national charity solely dedicated to tackling loneliness and social isolation among older people.Supported by a network of volunteers, the charity organises monthly Sunday afternoon tea parties for small groups of older people, aged 75 and over, who live alone. Offering a regular and vital friendship link every month.Each older person is collected from their home by a volunteer driver and taken to volunteer host's home for the afternoon. The group is warmly welcomed by a different host each month, but the drivers remain the same which means that over the months and years, acquaintances turn into friends and loneliness is replaced by companionship.
