Listening Volunteer

St Margaret's Hospice (Taunton & West Somerset)

Name: Listening Volunteer
Organisation: St Margaret's Hospice (Taunton & West Somerset)

Are you interested in supporting people with cancer? Are you caring, empathetic, and sensitive towards others, with the ability to sit and listen and to be non-judgemental? If so, we would love to hear from you!

Somerset Cancer Care requires 'listening' volunteers to support patients, their families, carers, or friends at our Minehead C.A.F.E. (Cancer Aid for Everyone) support group. Here, our volunteers sit, talk with, and offer relaxing hand massage to our visitors in a supportive, welcoming group environment. This can be a challenging role for which training will be given. In return you will be fully supported, gain experience and develop your skills, make friends, and make a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.

This role is not suitable for those people with a close bereavement or diagnosis of cancer within the past two years.

The support group runs weekly, on a Monday, from 2pm - 4pm. We are looking for volunteers who can offer a regular commitment, whether it be weekly, alternate weeks, or even monthly.

Training is located in Taunton and Yeovil, hence car owner/travel is required - car share may be an option but cannot be relied upon.

Somerset Cancer Care is committed to supporting and improving the quality of life of all those affected by cancer; our service is entirely delivered by volunteers.
