|Name:||Dementia Friendly volunteers|
|Organisation:||Minehead Dementia Action Alliance|
Dementia Friendly volunteers to help us run our activities which enable people with memory loss and their carers live well in our community.
We run three activities in the Minehead area and would love more volunteers at all of them. They are listed here in the order of need.
Forget-me-Nots is our new memory loss support group for people with dementia and their carers and is held in the Old Hospital Minehead on the first and third Monday of each month from 2-4pm. We require passionate volunteers to help us provide
refreshments and/or support the various activities being run in the main room. These include therapies, reminiscence, music and lots more! We have lovely people attending and this is a very enjoyable volunteering role.
The Forget-me-Nots group meets at The Old Hospital, The Avenue, Minehead, Somerset TA24 5AY.
Amble not Ramble
This is an informal walking group which meets monthly at different venues and is for people with memory loss, impaired mobility or just lack of confidence. We meet at 10am and walk for about 1 hour over good ground.
This is a very enjoyable volunteering role for those who enjoy being outdoors and chatting with people.
These dances are presently held at Wyndham House and help is needed to set up and clear the room and also to befriend participants and also maybe join in the dancing with them. Once again it is a very enjoyable volunteering role especially for
sociable people who enjoy music and/or dancing.
We would also welcome anyone who would like to join our committee and help with organising these activities and working to make Minehead dementia friendly.
Our aims are:
- To improve the lives of people with dementia and their carers who live in and around Minehead.
- To raise awareness of dementia within our community by working and liaising with individuals, businesses and organisations and encourage them to join Minehead DAA.
- To continue to work at making Minehead a Dementia Friendly Community.
Minehead DAA are involved with the Alzheimer Society’s Singing for the Brain and Memory Cafe and also run the following three activities:
Amble not Ramble (Gentle walks)
Forget-me-Nots (Memory loss support group)
Let’s Dance (Informal dancing)
Will require references
Must live or work locally
We are looking for passionate people who would like to make a difference to the lives of people with memory loss and their carers and help them live well in our local community.
Experience of dementia is a great help but is not a neccessity as training and support can be given.
A friendly nature with a sense of humour is essential!
Committee Volunteers are also needed to help out with Administration, Catering, Social Media and IT.
With regard to IT support, we need help mainly to help set up a website but also someone who understands Apple computers and how to produce leaflets in order to convert a ‘Word’ version leaflet to Apple documents.
|Training:||Expenses will be paid. Disabled access is available. Insurance is provided. Volunteer must speak English. Having a valid Driving Licence and access to a vehicle is not essential but would help. Forget-Me-Nots: 1st and 3rd Monday afternoons 1.30pm-4pm|
